How exciting! Next year, your child will go through an incredible growing period in their relationship with God through the preparation of two special sacraments: Sacrament of First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Eucharist (Communion).
This letter will provide you with information pertaining to St. William’s Sacramental Preparation process for your child.
Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist include:
What does the two-year preparation period look like?
The first year, the child is enrolled in the appropriate class for their school grade. Although this is usually 1st grade, a student can be a ‘year one’ student in any grade. This first year concentrates on learning about the faith at the appropriate grade level, beginning to understand and appreciate the Mass, the Commandments, and forgiveness.
The second year, the child enrolls in the appropriate grade. Although this is usually 2nd grade, a student can be a ‘year two’ student in any grade. In conjunction with attending appropriate grade level classes, the child is enrolled in the Sacrament Preparation Program. The sacramental preparation includes classroom instruction (to teach the basics of our faith), at home instruction from the sacramental workbook (engage the family faith formation), and two retreats (to reinforce material in sacramental workbooks).
We will be using the Dynamic Catholic Blessed© sacramental preparation curriculum. The Blessed© curriculum brings together world-class animation, workbooks that are works of art and incredible content that meets your children where they are and leads them, step-by-step, to where God is calling them to be. The short videos and workbooks will inspire your children to become lifelong Catholic disciples. To learn more about how your child will discover the sacraments this coming year go to dynamiccatholic.com.
Please fill out the attached Registration Form and return to the Faith Formation office at any time while school is in session (mailbox is located in school office). You can also drop the form off at the parish rectory during the summer. The cost of materials for sacramental preparation is $30, which will go toward 2 workbooks, special gifts for each sacrament received, a banner making kit and a personally painted chalice for their First Communion. Checks should be made out to St. William.
A Parent Meeting will be held on August 27, 2018 after the 6:00pm St. William School Parent Meeting in the Parish Hall. Meeting should only be 15 minutes long.
We look forward to being a part of your child’s sacramental journey!
